Since 1960

Our story and history.

From a family's journey to Ceylon to an exporter and commodity broker serving buyers around the world.

Our Story

Every company has a starting point. Ours began with a journey.

In 1945, during the Burma Campaign, the Jainulabdeen family — merchants in the food and timber business from South India — were forced to leave Burma and make their way back to India. They didn't stay long. The family set out again, this time for Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, to rebuild in the trades they knew best: tea, spices and foodstuffs.

Through the 1950s, most of the family decided to return to India. One stayed. Mr. Y.S.A. Jainulabdeen kept the business going with unrelenting determination, and under the name J. Zahirsha & Bros, the trading and exporting of tea, spices and general foodstuffs flourished. With his children as stakeholders, the company grew — adding dedication and expertise at every step.

In 1983, the company was incorporated as a limited liability company and became J. Zahirsha Bros (Pvt) Ltd.

After Mr. Jainulabdeen's passing, the business was taken forward by Mr. J. M. Zahirsha, our CEO, joined by his children, who continue to hold the same high standards for the quality of our products and service. It's all in our tagline: Quality is our specialty.

Today, we export Zahibro-brand tea, spices, coconut products, fresh fruits, vegetables and general foodstuffs to international markets, and we trade as commodity brokers for foodstuffs from around the world — rice, sugar, flour, pulses, spices and more.
